In July 2025, a supplemental training seminar on pesticide residue analysis and management was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, as part of the ASEAN-JICA Food Value Chain Development Project. The seminar aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of the Plant Protection Center (PPC) and other relevant divisions of the Department of Agriculture. This training was specifically designed to address critical gaps in pesticide management capacity within Lao PDR.
Dr. Yasuo Kitamura, Chief Advisor of the RETAQ Centre Project in Vietnam and an expert in pesticide analysis and pesticide management, supported and led the program. The training included lectures, field visits, and various sessions on formulation and residue analysis, together withregulatory experiences from Japan. Participants gained insights into the role of pesticide testing laboratories and discussed key issues, including the control of illegal pesticides and pesticide registration procedures.
The training was praised for its practical relevance and resourceful materials, with participants expressing appreciation for the emphasis on laboratory roles and regulatory insights. This seminar marked a valuable step in enhancing pesticide regulation and laboratory practices in Lao PDR and underscored the importance of continued collaboration under the ASEAN-JICA initiative.
